Tuesday aka My Favorite Day!

Tuesday. I love it!

In college I studied Economics. My dream was to be an Economic Analyst for the CIA. There I would study the economies of the world! People think the CIA only manages covert missions. They are fooling themselves! What all goes into those missions?
Everything. There are so many tiny details that go into any particular mission that it might boggle your mind. Think of it! They send people on missions where spies have to depend not only what is current, but historical information as well. Every detail is important. One lie boggled may kill hundreds if not thousands of missions and troops. The CIA needs to know everything. The economics of countries is important!

I owned my own business in college. I was a property inspector for banks. Most of the inspections were loans that were falling in default. Alone, I had to drive by occupied homes and take pictures of them for the mortgage companies. Most often the homeowners didn't have a clue someone would be driving by! It could be very frightening! Once a man followed me back out the long dirt road I had traveled in on to find their home. He pulled out a shotgun on me! ‘Who are you?! Why are you here?! Who do you work for?!’ I imagined these would be questions to a spy caught in a foreign country.

A Tuesday about eight years ago I was in between semesters. My property inspection business was always something I could schedule whenever I wanted. Normally I waited until I had enough to go one whole workday or two workdays a week to make my income. I took the day off for my boyfriend who offered to go out with his family on Lake Murray sailing. It was my first sailing experience, and OH MY! I discovered my love for sailing! I also discovered something else. I don't want to be an economic analyst!

There - out on the water… early week… the water is still… peaceful. There is no hustle. There are no worries of motorboats jostling the sailboat around.

It was a perfect day. The wind blew across my skin and through my hair. The boat caught sail in the wind and I am told to brace myself.

As the wind picks up... the pressure builds on one side of the sails and hull... the boat begins to tilt... skew... dance!

Tilt or skew sounds like it is off balance... That isn't it. It dances! It moves to the side... then to the other side... Straight or at an angle... It has strength in its moves. No other boat does that! A sailboat does!

When it moves to the right or left, it is more like a human than anything boating on the water. It dips and jibs like only a dancer does. When it 'keels' it is controlled and strong in its keel. I was told to know that I could be standing straight up - right against the earth - while the boat is almost totally on its side. Amazing! The speeds and the wind through my hair as I stand on the keeled over craft! It makes my heart race! I felt like I could hear the whispers of life's direction for me in my ear.

I think you needed to know the base of the story to know the answer.

That was the day I discovered I love Tuesday.

I grew up in South Carolina. My family and I had spent many days and holidays out and on the many waters of the state. I love every waterway of South Carolina from its waterholes, streams, ponds, rivers, lakes and the great Atlantic!

What does the average person do? Let's see... the average person works Monday through Friday; has weekends off; takes one or two weeks off a year for vacation, and is content with his/her general malcontent of life. The average person sucks up the fact that his/her life is in [this] squared off space and they have to deal with that in order to get to their weekends.

I realized I don't want to be one of those people!

I love Tuesday! I want to be on the water on Tuesday! When the waters are calm and there is no one else about I want to be there! Weekends are for amateurs. That's the people who don't know how to act because ‘out’ is a rarity. It is the norm to act like yourself only two days a week. That's not me! That's not where I want to be!

Then I began paying attention. Around town on Tuesday- the streets are clear. If I wish to make it to an appointment, I don't have to leave early because it is rush hour. I want a job where I have the luxury of being wherever I want to be whenever I want to be there!

And Tuesdays out? I have the best service that any restaurant can provide! The 'amateurs' don't begin coming out until Wednesday again. Me? I avoid the DUI drunkards, the rush to get wasted, the noise and the crowds. Weekends are the worst, and most people don't even consider it.

I think it no surprise that our most basic given inalienable American right to vote is generally given to us on a Tuesday.

Here's a reason to like Tuesday- A Mexican restaurant, La Faogata in West Columbia has a Mariachi band on Tuesdays! They were even serving free beer there for a while.

According to Wikipedia, the color associated with Tuesday is pink. I bet you didn't know that! "That girl is like a friggin' Snapple! Even if you didn't like the drink, when the top is popped, you learn something!" (Daniel Tosh Snapple Joke)

  1. Great post. You weaved many points and stories back into your central theme in a very "economical" way. Good reading to start my rainy Thursday by contrast.

  5. Absolutely Aunt Beth! You say when, and I'm there! I'm starting to stay in Charleston a couple of days a week. I have a friend's home on the water when it isn't being leased as a vacation rental. You guys should visit!
