Recently I was presented with a very big opportunity. After filming the House Hunters show for HGTV, I left my cheesy audition video online on YouTube. A casting director for a different film company contacted me. They were looking to fill two possible host positions for series on HGTV shows.
"I saw your demo tape for House Hunters
on You Tube and thought it showed a lot of promise, and I’ve subsequently seen from your Twitter page that you were selected and have finished filming so congratulations! I am looking for an outgoing, assured communicator who is warm, engaging..."
One show would be helping homeowners who are having a hard time selling their properties, and the other show would be helping first time home buyers. I would be traveling the country doing whichever show nation wide. I would not have to move, they could fly me out of wherever I live when needed. It would not exactly be full time work, but would require a 'significant commitment'. Of the shows that needed casting, the one working with homeowners was the more immediate opening.
Yes, when I hung up from the call, I did scream! It was difficult to even sound cool and collected on the phone. I had to send in my resume and a head shot. The casting director said the executive producers for the film company would be having a meeting and I would get an update.
Within a just over a week, I received an email from them saying that I was picked out of the 30 possible hosts to be approved by the network! Man, that was so exciting to hear! Next step was that my information and video would be sent to HGTV to be approved. I should hear something back from the casting director in no more than a week.
As time passed on, I kept in contact with the casting director from time to time. Things had gotten busy at the production company, and the week had more than passed. Another week, then another. Six weeks passed! Six excruciating weeks!
Finally, just about a week ago, I messaged the casting director again. I hadn't harassed him about the show in a while. Everyone told me to be patient, and I tried my best! He said, yes, he had just heard about it. Of the four host candidates, two of them were asked to come personally audition.
I was not one of the two.
Hey, something could always change. I know better than most that 'life happens'. There is a tiny chance I might get a call back, however, life here does go on. It was tremendous to be considered as one of four casting choices!
I don't know the other candidates, but you'd have been a good choice. No doubt about it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for that call back. :-)
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, that is freakin awesome girl! You should be so proud of yourself either way. That is really cool! Keep trying because obviously they saw something they liked. :)
